Webinar Description
Strong relationships between boarding and day school staff are essential to creating a cohesive, supportive school environment. This webinar explores practical ways to strengthen understanding, communication and connection between the boarding house and the day school.

Phil Noble and Will Mercer share systems and structures that support seamless information flow, ensuring boarding staff have real-time access to students’ academic commitments, school events and pastoral concerns, much like parents do. The session also addresses the importance of intentional separation, recognising that not everything that happens in the boarding house should be immediately shared with the day school in order to preserve a genuine “home away from home” environment. Respecting appropriate boundaries and confidentiality is a key focus.

The webinar outlines clear communication protocols, including leadership meetings, parent communication and controlled information sharing, where significant issues are shared with pastoral teams in a way that provides appropriate context without overexposing students. Phil and Will also explore the importance of presence, visibility and teaching across the broader school, highlighting how boarding staff can maintain strong touchpoints with the day school and build relationships with both day students and boarders.

Finally, the session examines meaningful engagement and connection, including intentional invitations to shared spaces such as dining, amplifying parent voice, celebrating National Boarding Week and special events, and building practical support networks. Designed for boarding leaders and school staff alike, this webinar helps demystify boarding life and supports stronger, more collaborative school communities.
